How to pick the right mortgage professional?

In the past 14 years of helping making the American Dream a reality, one of the biggest questions borrowers ask (besides what is your rate?) is why should I use YOU instead of another lender? (This will be the first time I write on this topic so please bear with me….) There are several reasons that I feel are the most important in choosing a mortgage professional…

First of all, trust your circle of influence… Ask your close friends and families who have purchased a home recently… Ask how their experience went and if they would have the confidence to refer you to their loan officer… Typically, a loan officer received a great deal of their business from past clients and if this is NOT the case then they probably do not do a good job…

Second, COST… I like every other consumer LOVES to get a bargain!!! However, on a mortgage loan there may be a bigger cost that comes with CHEAP… There are a lot of online mortgage companies that will have the CHEAPEST fees and rates, but you will always get what you pay for… Most of the online mortgage companies work from call centers with employees that are mere order takers… So, buyer beware, if it sounds to good to be true it probably is…

Third, get a second opinion… As with doctors, I always encourage my clients to get a second quote… Keep your mortgage professional honest… Anyone in this business realizes this is the largest investment and purchase in a person’s live and you should be cautious and take the time to do your research… Many mortgage professionals will even help you to compare two offers, again if they are not willing to help you with this, they may not be the one…

Lastly, trust the people within your real estate transaction… Usually realtors will refer you to a mortgage professional that they know, like and trust… Trust whom they send you too… Realtors close loans everyday… They know who can get the transaction closed on time with great fees and rates…
